Open Galas
Open Galas are entered on an individual basis. These galas are run with electronic timing.
Dates for this year’s galas and the Swim Ulster competition information can be found on www.swimulster.net. This will give you information on how open meets are structured, how your swimmer qualifies, and how the meets are run, as well as details of the various competitions.
Entry process
Open galas will advertised by email and on Team Unify with details of venue, programme of events, fees and closing date for entries. Please note, late entries cannot be accepted.
Gala fees
Entry fees are per race. Swim Ulster galas are £5 per race, but this may vary for other meets. All swimmers must pay their gala entry fees to Leander ASC prior to the gala. Gala fees are paid in advance through Team Unify account.
Withdrawals and fines
If your swimmer is unable to compete, it is important to make a withdrawal. Swimmers failing to make an official withdrawal results in the club being fined. Fines range from £5, for a regional event, to €50 for a national event.
Unfortunately there can be no refunds once a swimmer has entered an open gala – even if the swimmer withdraws at a later stage.
Volunteers
It is a condition of the club’s entry to open galas that we provide volunteers to assist in the running of the gala. The roles are varied: programme selling, timekeeping, stroke and turn judges, marshalling, recorder etc. If a Leander swimmer enters an open gala, the club is agreeing to provide a volunteer for at least one FULL session in one of the required roles. Please be prepared to help.
